Students from EU and EEA countries do not need a visa to study in Poland. You may enter the country using a valid passport or national ID card.
However, all EU/EEA students are required to register their stay in Poland if their planned stay exceeds 3 months. This process is carried out at the Lubuskie Province Governor’s Office (Lubuski Urząd Wojewódzki).
The main office is located in Gorzów Wielkopolski
There is also a branch office in Zielona Góra, where students can register their residence
Registration of residence is free of charge
Valid ID (or passport): 1 original and 4 photocopies
European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) – valid for your entire stay (copy)
Proof of sufficient financial means (e.g., a bank statement or declaration)
Certificate of student status from the University of Zielona Góra
(available from your Dean’s Office a few days after arrival)
Completed application form (available from the Provincial Office or online)
The International Cooperation Office is happy to assist you with this process.
Swiss nationals are subject to the same rules as EU/EEA citizens but must enter Poland with a valid passport (an ID card is not sufficient).
Students from outside the EU/EEA must enter Poland with:
A valid passport
A Polish visa (unless your country is exempt from visa requirements)
You must apply for the appropriate visa before arriving in Poland, at a Polish consulate or embassy in your home country.
Short-term visa (Schengen type C) – valid for up to 90 days
Long-term visa (national type D) – valid for up to 1 year
Important: If your stay in Poland will exceed 3 months, you must apply for a long-term (D) visa covering the full period of your studies.
Visa extension within Poland is possible only in exceptional cases, such as unforeseen emergencies, and can only be granted once.
If you have received a visa covering your entire stay, you are not required to apply for a temporary residence permit.
However, if your stay will exceed the validity of your visa, you must apply for a residence permit at the Lubuskie Province Governor’s Office during your stay in Poland.
